Merck KGaA’s South Korean API partnership; Sanofi’s supply chain alliance with DHL

South Korean CDMO Lotte Biologics and Merck KGaA’s life science arm MilliporeSigma have signed a Letter of Intent to improve raw material production and supply chains, according to a May 31 release.

Merck KGaA has opened a new €180 million ($196 million) life science distribution center in Schnelldorf, Germany. The site houses over 470 staffers and has capacity for manual down filling operations, according to a Thursday release.

Sanofi and DHL Supply Chain are partnering to improve the pharma company’s logistics in France. DHL will provide supply chain services across Sanofi’s sites in Amilly, Croissy-Beaubourg and Saint-Loubès, according to a Thursday release.

Sanofi and Charles River Laboratories will work together to generate virtual animal models via machine learning for preclinical trials, according to a Tuesday release.

Thermo Fisher has opened a new ultra-cold facility in Bleiswijk, Netherlands, for clinical and commercial packaging labeling and distribution of cell and gene therapies in Europe, the company said Monday.

EuroAPI said it is one of 13 companies selected by the European Commission that can tap into public funding worth €1 billion. The project, dubbed IPCEI Med4Cure, aims to improve healthcare in France, Belgium, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia and Spain, according to a Thursday release.

Wacker Biotech has opened a new €100 million ($109 million) mRNA center in Halle, Germany. The facility will manufacture API for Covid-19 mRNA vaccines. The company will help the German government with pandemic preparedness. The site can produce 200 million vaccine doses annually, a Monday release shows.

Asahi Kasei Medical’s CDMO arm Bionova Scientific is establishing a new facility in Woodlands, TX, for plasmid DNA production. The site is said to open in the first quarter of 2025 and GMP manufacturing is scheduled for later that year, a Monday release states.

Belgian biotech Bio-Sourcing and South African biotech Afrigen Biologics are partnering on a pilot program to test Bio-Sourcing’s platform that can help manufacture biologics like monoclonal antibodies and insulin products, the companies said Tuesday.

CDMO BioCina gained exclusive rights to use cell and gene biotech CelluTx’s recombination-based plasmid system platform and the CDMO will offer this as a service to clients. The technology is for minicircle DNA production, a Monday release states.
